Adult Basic Education / GED

Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) at Medina County Career Center offers free classes for adults who are ready to move forward with their education and training.

GED/Basic Skills Classes

Who needs it? This class is for you if you:

  • left high school without a diploma and you want to earn your GED

  • got a high school diploma but don’t feel your skills are “up to speed”

  • got a high school diploma but are having trouble passing entrance tests for professional programs

What the class covers:

  • Math (emphasis on problem solving, geometry, algebra, word problems)

  • Reading (emphasis on analytical and critical reading of all kinds of material)

  • Writing (emphasis on organizing and writing clearly)

  • Locating information in graphics (tables, charts, diagrams, graphs)

  • Test-taking practice, study skills, team building, learning productive habits

Registration & Orientation

Attendance at Registration/Orientation is required before you can begin GED/Basic Skills Classes or take a GED Practice Test at Medina County Career Center. Please call 330.721.0277 for information about registration options.

GED Test

All GED Test scheduling must be done online with the Ohio Department of Education (ODE). To schedule a test, you must register, apply, and pay online at the ODE website

  1. Select “GED Web Application Sign In” and follow the instructions to apply for a SAFE account.

  2. Through your SAFE account, submit your Application and Pay the $40 testing fee.

  3. When your application and fee have been accepted, you can schedule your test online at any testing location in the state of Ohio.

  4. After you’ve taken your GED test, you can use your SAFE account to find out your scores.

Classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Who needs this class? Our class will help if you

  • are a new English language speaker and you want to practice conversation

  • are an English language learner who’s ready to learn more

  • want to improve your English language skills to look for a job, to apply for citizenship, or to feel more comfortable in your community


What the class covers:

  • beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels

  • professional teachers

  • opportunities to practice everyday English with classmates and volunteers

Registration for Fall classes will be on Monday, September 10, 2012.  Fall classes begin on September 17.
