PARTNER TO OPERATE EMS ACADEMY
August 23, 2011
Medina, OH – Medina Hospital and Medina County Career Center officials today announced a partnership to jointly operate the EMS Academy at the Medina County Career Center (MCCC) and enhance its program offerings.
The joint venture between Medina Hospital and the MCCC will bring more resources to students, including an online curriculum where students can take tests, review lectures and receive tutoring from instructors. All teachers and staff from the Medina County Career Center EMS program have been hired on as contracted employees.
“This partnership between Medina Hospital and Medina County Career Center will benefit the students and our neighbors by bringing the highest levels of EMS training to our community,” said Dr. Tom Tulisiak, President of Medina Hospital. “First responders are extremely important to our work at Medina Hospital and we saw an opportunity to work more closely with the Medina County Career Center to combine our resources and enhance the EMS Academy’s offerings.”
Students who attend the EMS Academy will undergo 130 hours of coursework to earn certification as Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B). This training prepares individuals to serve on rescue squads, ambulance services, and fire departments. The EMS Academy also will provide continuing education and enrich a program where high school juniors and seniors can begin working toward EMT-B certification.
“MCCC has trained police officers, firefighters and EMTs for many years and is committed to providing the best training available for Medina County’s safety forces,” said Mike Larson, Superintendent of the Medina County Career Center. “Partnering with Medina Hospital will provide the EMS Academy with additional resources and personnel with the ultimate goal of becoming a training destination for regional safety forces.”
Classes start Sept. 19 and registration is now open. Students will attend evening classes 2-3 days and this year’s session will run through Dec. 17.
